couch to 5K training

Hi everyone, I've decided to train for a 5K to start, but my longer term objective is to do a sprint triathlon. I'm going to focus on jogging to start, so I can run on the treadmill on bad-weather days. Maybe Jon and I will get back to the pool to do some more aquabics!

Jon's done his CD now, so perhaps he'll have time and energy that he can put towards training with me too.

Ciao for now, ktb

HI EVERYONE FROM US!

This was us a few months before the weigh-in (Amalfi Coast, December)....we're hoping to both shed some weight in time for Cape Breton summer...whenever that's gonna be!

Love KTB and Jon

Easy Greek Salad, Garlic-mashed potatoes and Marinated steak

Here's a great side salad for a barbecue dinner:
English cucumbers diced
Grape tomatoes whole
Green Red, Orange or Yellow peppers diced
Feta cheese cubed
Sliced jalapeno pepper (if you like it spicy)
Pitted black olives (the no name brand ones are great)
And we recently tried the Kraft Olive Oil Salad dressing (Tuscan-style Italian or something like that) which was a really nice dressing to mix with this

This is best made up a few hours before your dinner so that the dressing gets fully mixed in with the salad

For an easy, tasty marinade, we like the PC Mola sauce (it's chili and chocolate sauce which is great to flavour your steaks)

As another side dish, we boiled up some of those lovely PC small red potatoes, mashed them with some garlic and a little bit of chili sauce...mmmmm mmmmm

Not much of a diet meal, eh?

But just watch your portion size :)

HEALTHY TIPS TO SHARE

It's gonna be hard to do, but:

  • Avoid foods that have any of these as their first five ingredients: saturated fat, trans fat, simple sugar or syrup like high-fructose corn syrup.
  • Choose 100% whole grains whenever possible.
  • Exercise 45 minutes/day x 6 days/week or 30 mins/day as many days/week (2 of the days should be strength training)
  • Eat more spinach! (e.g. spinach, mandarin and almond salad has a lot of vitamin E and C)
  • Floss everyday! It prevents gum disease that has been linked to heart attack and stroke.
  • Take more walks (if you can't meet the exercise requirements suggested above)
  • Breathe more deeply. Try the 4-7-8 rule (count to 4 when you inhale, count to 7 as you hold, and count to 8 as you exhale)
  • Eat plenty of rainbow-hued fruits and vegetables.

That's a start!

FROM JEN - BACK ON TRACK TOO!

This is all inspiring. Guess Noah and I better get back on track. We got WAY off. Jamie is still doing great. (Except he is at the moment in P.E.I probably having a huge breakfast after a Lobster Dinner last night! ) We'll let you know what are plan of attack is when we figure it out. For now we are helping out more with walking Belle and everytime we want to visit the mall we walk through Westmount to get there. At least it is a start!

Way to go Mart, Jon, Mum and Dad!!

FROM DAD - TALES OF WOE!

Hi All;

We have a great life style here at the cottage. On our way here we stopped and got a few necessities (groceries). All of it healthy stuff, vegies, fruit (not ripe), skim milk, green tea decaf coffee, yogurt (fat free) etc.No candy, ice cream, bread or etc.

We thought we would go out occasionally and have our treats. However, the price of gas has squashed that idea so we eat healthy and very little as we are now on rations.

No need to use a small plate, there is not enough to fill a saucer. However we don't mind and we eat healthy.

Mom bought a pound of stew meat on the way here. We made a stew and have had it for 4 meals.

We had a loaf of home made bread, but it is almost gone. Mom only lets me have one piece at a time.

Luckly, Mare brought us down some home baked beans one night. We ate well that night.

We have no pop, no treats or sweets. We drink water if thirsty.

We look forward to the weigh off in August.

Love DAd
